How to reach Skopelos island

Planes, Trains, Ferries....Oh My!

We know travel can be intimidating to some. Here are some helpful tips on how to reach Skopelos Island. Trust us, it is definitely worth it!

Travel to Skopelos

Island Location:

Skopelos Island is a member of the Sporades Islands , a group of three islands including Skiathos, Skopelos and Alonnisos, in the Northern Aegean Sea. The nearest airport being on the island of Skiathos. 

Skiathos Airport:

The quickest way to travel to Skopelos is through the Skiathos Airport (JSI) which provides year wide flights. 


  • Airline carriers from Athens to Skiathos include Aegean Airlines, Olympic Air and Sky Express. 
  • Seasonal carriers also operate during the summer months to accommodate travelers from European cities. 


Once in Skiathos transport from the Airport to the port is by a short 5 minute taxi ride. Then a quick ferry ride from Skiathos port to either the port of Glossa on the North-west side of Skopelos island or to the main port of Skopelos Chora at the town of Skopelos.  

Ferry Ports of Call:

There are several ports of departure for Skopelos Island where a ferry ride is all it takes.


  • Port of Volos - Located in Volos, this port functions year round and services Skiathos, Skopelos and Alonnisos. Most ferry companies will operate from this port including Hellenic Seaways, ANES Ferry Lines and Aeagean Flying Dolphin. 
  • Port of Mandoudi - Located on Evia this port is the closest to Athens. Usually operated by the ANES Ferry Lines.
  • Port of Kimi - Also located on Evia, this port services the islands of Skyros, Alonnisos and Skopelos. The ferry that provides this route is the Skyros Shipping Company. 
  • Port of Agios Konstantinos - Located approximately half way between Athens and Volos this port services Skiathos, Skopelos and Alonnisos. The ferry companies who provide routes are Hellenic Seaways and Aegean Flying Dolphin.  


**Please note that the ferry companies also have bus services that take passengers from Athens to the port of departure. Make sure to make your bus reservations when you book your ferry ticket.**


**All ports service vehicle ferries so if you are planing on bring your own car you can choose any port that is most convenient for you.**

Athens to Skopelos:

Most travelers to Greece either through the capital city of Athens, spending a few days there to see all the amazing historical sites and museums and all the city has to offer. Then travel to Skopelos for a relaxing island holiday. How to get from Athens to Skopelos:


  • Flight from Athens Airport (ATH) to Skiathos Airport (SKI)
  • Bus from Athens to Mandoudi Port on Evia (approximately 2 hours) then ferry to Skopelos (approximately 1.5 - 2.5 hours depending on route).
  • Bus from Athens to Kimi Port then ferry ride to Skopelos.
  • Bus from Athens to Agios Konstantinos Port (approximately 2.5 hours) then ferry to Skopelos.
